Love, Marriage and Equality for All

June 25, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC—On the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decisions that legalized marriage for LGBTQ+ people, Brian K. Bond, Executive Director of PFLAG National, issued the following statement:

“It is wonderful to celebrate love and marriage for our LGBTQ+ loved ones during Pride Month. However, the hard-fought battles to win the freedom to marry were just one step on the road to full justice and equality for LGBTQ+ people–and the backlash against this victory was swift and continues today. In 2021, LGBTQ+ people and our families are still navigating a patchwork of legal protections to determine whether we can access basic rights, well beyond marriage–to work, to play, to live. PFLAGers everywhere will continue this fight, and we call on our Senators from every corner of the country to pass the Equality Act to expand nondiscrimination protections not just for our LGBTQ+ loved ones, but for intersectional communities of people of color, women, and people of faith.”
