MacKenzie Scott Makes Major Gift to PFLAG National

PFLAG among 116 organizations to benefit from Scott’s generosity

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, MacKenzie Scott announced a major gift in the form of an impact grant to PFLAG National as part of her commitment to the Giving Pledge. At a time when a pandemic has closed or limited community resources for LGBTQ+ people and their families, Scott’s generous gift propels PFLAG National’s ability to meet the diverse needs of families across the country with critical support, education, and advocacy services.

“Between the pandemic and years of being hit hard by dangerous and damaging anti-LGBTQ+ policies at the local, state, and federal level, families and our LGBTQ+ loved ones have depended on PFLAG, perhaps more than ever. PFLAG National is grateful to MacKenzie Scott for her generosity, which will help strengthen our infrastructure, grow our staff, and build new programs that will bring new allies along to the fight for LGBTQ+ affirmation and equality,” said Brian Bond, Executive Director of PFLAG National.

In her announcement earlier today, Scott said, “I recommend these organizations to anyone similarly excited by the idea of empowering leaders well-positioned to accelerate progress. Every one of them is tackling complex challenges that will require sustained effort over many years, while simultaneously addressing consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. And every one of them would benefit from more allies looking to share wealth of all types and sizes, including money, volunteer time, supplies, advocacy, publicity, networks and relationships, collaboration, encouragement, and trust.”

As the family and ally organization of the LGBTQ+ community, PFLAG has been fighting for equality for LGBTQ+ people living in every state in the U.S. for nearly 50 years. Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, and for the first time in its history, the PFLAG Chapter Network transitioned its in-person meetings to entirely online formats through a new program called PFLAG Connects. Through online reach and services that extend beyond driving-distances at a time when people most need to feel connected, PFLAG National has continued to serve LGBTQ+ people, their parents and families, and allies throughout this time of pandemic.
